After much joy and high praises by the Nigerian Labour Workers, Governor Godswill Akpabio further break the silence. address thus:
I lack word to say on this May day occasion, but if you can look into my face you will see smile all over my face. i don't have much to say. i just want to thank you for your effort since i resume office. I thank Hon. Unyime Usoro, his dear workers and all other labour leaders who have been with me for the past seven years.
Our dear chief judge, commissioners and special advisers, and great Akwa Ibom Labour workers, i salute you all on this 2014 workers day.
when i was a commsission i recall when we had our may day, each time rain will be so heavy that it will have to lift up the canopies, but today each time i appear before you, God will send down sun.
today i stand in the spirit of the inspiration and our anthem to sing solidarity forever.
the tradition of the workers day is the archievment of workers. i think solidarity is thicker that politics. peace and unity are the seed that support each unity of any organization. that is why we all gather here today because of the peace and unity that exist between us.
my dear workers, i regret to inform you, as we are about to appoint our new leader, the forces of evil will not win us. although the will come in different ways, political and otherwise, our victory is sure.
let us note that aside fro this workers day, My tenure will end in the next coming workers day, on that next workers day, we will finish election and appoint your new governor.
Remember that the bible says watch and pray, that means we should be security conscious, we should watch the men and women who are parading themselve into houses in the state looking for one position or the other. we should watch our children including ourself.
I am proud of the cordial relationship that exist between me and the entire workers of akwa ibom state. i am proud of you all.
Today you are praises me of my good works, What do you expect when you appoint a labour worker like me into office. this is government for workers, by workers and for workers. Together we agree that when God does his will, no one can change. that is why we will continue the training of workers. we are proud with your signatures.
Special tribute to Unyime Usoro for providing strong leadership for our worker, same tribute goes to miss Cecilia Udo Essien. may God also guide and bless you all for the support and effort.
i must say that this workers day, our heart goes out to Nyanya bomb blast victims, we sympathize with the affected families. We should remember our Nigeria's anthem that says Nigeria calls obey, today we are calling on the released of those kidnap Chibok schoolgirls to be released and those holding them captive must Obey to the call.
The call is for us to release our children, The call is for us to put an end to bloodshed in our country Nigeria. we sympathise with the affected families. i stand here my dear workers,unbehave of the president, that the egyptian you are seeing today, you shalll see them no more.
It is my prayer, May God protect them and bring them back safely in Jesus name.
i want to enjourn you to be delegent in servicce. lets stand together to move this state forward, lets stand together and sing solidarity forever.
on the issue of billing, we will intervene immediately. about the employment where a Nigerian is never appointed as the manager rather gate-men, we will loook into that.
when i came here today, i said let me challenge the workers becausse i know that you are not doing badly. our rate of development as not gone down. it is only politics they are reporting. a lot of works we have complete. I know this year workers day, you are strolling to Ibom Plaza hotel, next you are going to 15 floor. the rate of development is not down.
On the issue of rice project, i promise to look more into that.
On the issue of the lady that was sack, you name the lady but not her crime, on Sunday people were seen naked on television. me myself i call the studio manager and blame the tv presenter, if you want to broadcast blue film, atleast it should not be on Sunday when you know a lot of children will be at home watching tv. On her issue, i hope the suspension was also with salary because you cannot suspend somebody and still pay her salary.
Finally i must say that i have enjoy the cordial relation that exist between you and me. i must congratulate Unyime Usoro, as you have said i don't know if this is going to be your last workers day but what ever the case may be, we all celebrate with you today.
Let me that you for the signatures. before i step down, we will do our best to make sure that there is peace in akwa ibom.
