The corpse
was discovered by fishermen on duties in the river, who quickly
mobilized and took it off shores after sighting the body.
The discovery of floating corpses, especially of children has become a recurring decimal each year in the state capitales, pecially during the rainy season when the river is usually filled to the brim.
A fisherman, Mallam Abubakar Haruna, said the frequency with which floating corpses are found, peak during the rainy season.
He said most of the victims are children who usually come to the river to swim oblivious of the increasing waves occasioned by the increment in volume of water in the river.
He advised parents especially those who live in Jimeta, Vunoklang, and environs to be extra vigilant in monitoring the movement of their children, saying that lack of vigilance is mostly responsible for the increase in cases of children drowning while swimming.
Haruna said their intervention in many instances have saved children from drowning as they always prevent under aged children from swimming but despite that, the children always find a way to swim in other parts of the river away from where they could be easily seen.
