The University of Lagos,
Akoka, or UNILAG, the moniker by which it is popularly called, is a
federal government university in Lagos State, south-western Nigeria.
Established on 22 October 1962 on the authority of
the University of Lagos Act of 1962, it is currently being headed by
Professor Rahmon Ade Bello, a Nigerian professor of Chemical engineering and educational administrator.
The institution’s students call themselves ‘Akokites’, after the location Akoka.
